People have been calling this year’s Academy Awards the whitest since the 90s. Last year, I was pleased to see a good diversity in the nominees and now this year, I am definitely a little disappointed. While I am not outraged to the point of boycotting the show, I’m frustrated that an industry I want so much to be apart of is still so prejudice against female filmmakers and minorities. I want to go into film because of how it can move and change an audience. But how can this industry do that when it doesn’t make many movies that allow a diverse population to relate and understand. This AP article is a great perspective on the show and the Academy itself.

I'm from Florida, a junior at the University of Central Florida. Currently, I'm a political science-IR major. I'm an avid traveler and explorer of all things worth exploring. Hoarder of books and movies, and caretaker to my beloved camera and piano. I think conformity and math are terrible, but vegetarianism and nature conservation are awesome. Traveling is also a huge passion of mine. I thank my parents for that, as they took my two sisters and I around the world from the time we were in diapers; now I'll forever have the travel bug. I have a variety of interests from photography to theatre to the great outdoors. Growing up, I always felt an urge to get out in the world, explore and be actively involved in efforts dedicated to making changes in the world, impacting something or someone in a inspirational and positive way. It's important to notice what is happening in the world, to fight for what is good and what is right. As someone who is diagnosed with clinical depression and ADHD, I am an advocate for mental health education and thus one of the cornerstones of this blog is writing to inspire others;to say, whether it's through a review or a poem, that the human experience is a hard one but worthwhile. This blog covers entertainment, travel, current events and personal pieces as well. Thanks for stopping by! :)
